About JoaquĆn

Joaquin Ramos Chiao is an innovative pianist from Houston, Texas who believes that music is a universal language that expresses emotions which words can't.

A 2024 Youngarts Award recipient in jazz piano, JoaquĆn currently studies Jazz Piano at Oberlin College in the studio of Grammy-winning pianist Luis Perdomo. He has also studied with the likes of Sullivan Fortner, Dan Wall, Dave Kikoski, Micah Thomas, Paul Cornish, and Bill Cunliffe. Still early in his career, he has shared the bandstand with names such as Tex Allen, Vincent Gardner, and has opened for Mei Semones. He has also played at a number of renowned venues, such as the Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston.

Joaquin is focused on exploring and connecting with his Latino culture through the study of Latino-iberian musical idioms.
